Vernacular Names: Black-tailed Dasyure.

Synonyms: Murexechinus mayeri (Dollman 1930); Murexechinus modesta (Thomas 1912); Murexechinus wilhelmina Tate 1947 .

Distribution: New Guinea, from 134°00’E to 151°01’E (Normanby Isl), sea level to 2800 m.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Antechinus melanurus, Data Deficient as A. wilhelmina .

Discussion: Usually included in Antechinus, but reassigned to Murexia by Armstrong et al. (1998) and to a new genus by Van Dyck (2002). Synonymy after Van Dyck (2000).
