Discussion: Formerly included in Antechinus, and this allocation was continued by McKenna and Bell (1997), but Archer (1982) and Krajewski et al. (2000) showed that they are not sister-groups. Kitchener and Caputi (1988) restricted this genus to P. apicalis, which according to Krajewski et al. (1997 a) is closely related to Dasykaluta .
