Pseudomantis hartmeyeri Werner, 1912

= Notomantis chlorophana Tindale, 1923 syn. nov.

None of the six P. hartmeyeri types can be located, and although Werner’s (1912) description is somewhat vague, only one species is known from anywhere near the type locality. This species for the most part agrees with the description, and thus it seems almost certain that it is indeed P. hartmeyeri .

Tindale had not seen the types of P. hartmeyeri when he described Notomantis chlorophana despite the two being collected close to each other (Tindale 1923), and it is perplexing why he decided to describe a new genus for the species. He made no effort to distinguish Notomantis from Pseudomantis despite the similarity. P. hartmeyeri is no more divergent than any other of the species in the genus, and the minor differences between them are not warranting of generic status.
