Orthodera marginata (Saussure, 1873) stat. rev.

Although the type specimens of O. marginata are missing, Saussure’s (1873) description and diagrams leave no doubt as to the identity of this species. Giglio-Tos (1921) synonymised O. marginata with O. gunnii (Le Guillou, 1841) without comment. Le Guillou’s types are also missing and his brief description is insufficient to distinguish O. gunnii from other members of the genus. O. gunnii was collected in Hobart, an area with an extremely different climate and habitat to the localities where O. marginata has been collected (arid inland regions of the mainland). Thus, it is almost certainly not conspecific with O. marginata and the latter is here revalidated.
