Geographical distribution: endemic to the Neotropical region, occurring from Cuba to Argentina. Material from Cuba: Santiago de Cuba, Río Contramaestre, Pozo Caliente, 21.III.1973, Cuban- Romanian Biospeological Expedition leg., 5 Ψ (SDH, SIB) (Nieser 1977).

Habitat: stagnant freshwater; common in temporary small puddles and artificial pools.
