Previous records in the Algerian Sahara. Recorded near Laghouat by Blanchard, (1891), Tilremt, Oued Mzab (Seurat 1930), Tassili N’Ajjer (Gauthier 1930), and Mouydir (Gauthier 1933).

Previous records in the Hauts Plateaux and coastal area. Between Laghouat and Djelfa (Gauthier 1928b), Garaet Timerganine (Ouahioune Rais 2019), Jemot (Ouahioune Rais 2019; Beladjal & Amarouayache 2023).

Comments. Previously, this species was divided into two separate species: Leptestheria mayeti and L. cortieri (Rogers 2020) . Another species, L. heterochaeta Daday, 1923, is considered a possible junior synonym of L. mayeti according to Rogers (2020). The distribution of L. mayeti in Algeria, extending into the Central Sahara, contrasts with its more northerly distribution in Tunisia (Marrone et al. 2016).
