Diagnosis. Adult (Fig. 5) with wingspan 16.0–18.0 mm. Scythropiodes tribula is similar to S. hamatellus and S. jiulianae superficially. In S. tribula the forewings are scattered with a few yellowish brown scales, while the forewings are covered with dense dark brown scales in the latter two species (Figs 6–7); in the male genitalia, S. tribula has three cornuti (Fig. 20), while S. hamatellus has no cornutus (Fig. 21) and S. jiulianae has two cornuti (Fig. 22). Scythropiodes tribula is also similar to S. approximans in appearance, and the differences between them are stated under S. approximans .
