Type data: This species was described based on three females and one male collected in Brazil, Venezuela, and Mexico. Two females from Brazil and Venezuela were found at ZMB, being the Brazilian specimen here designated the lectotype. Type locality: Brazil .
Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Brazil. This species is similar to C. bicolor Lepeletier, 1841, differing for it by its larger size and by the pubescence of the lateral surface of the mesepisternum and pronotal lobe (black in C. lutea; yellow in C. bicolor).
