Type data: Friese (1899) described this species using male and female specimens collected in different states of Brazil. The lectotype was designated by Rasmussen & Vivallo (2014), it is currently housed at HNHM and has the following data label: Brasil Jundiahy [printed] 16.II. [handwritten with red ink] 1899 Schrottky [printed]\ Centris proxima Fr. ♂ Type! [handwritten] 1900 Friese det. [printed]\ [red label] Lectotype Centris proxima Friese, 1899 Design. Rasmussen & Vivallo [printed] (HNHM). The current condition and depository of the paralectotypes are unknown.

Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo state: Jundiaí (“Jundiahy”) .

Comment: In the collection of the Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut, Müncheberg, Germany (DEI) it was found a male also collected by Schrottky in the same locality of the lectotype. This male is conspecific with C. proxima, but Friese failed in recognize it as such, identifying as C. bimaculata Lepeletier, 1841 .
