Type data: This variety was proposed based on an undetermined number of males collected in Brazil and French Guyana. The syntypes are housed at AMNH, NMW and ZMB. The specimen housed in this latter collection was collected (or obtained from) by the German ornithologist and entomologist Franz Hermann Rolle (1864–1929), a natural history dealer in Berlin. The current condition and depository of the paralectotype (s) from French Guyana (Cayenne) are unknown.

Three males housed at NMW have a different label, but they also were collected in Obidos (Rio Branco) by the same collector of the other paralectotypes. It is not clear if they also must be recognized as paralectotypes or not. All specimens bear the following label: [black rimmed] Rio Branco, Obidos H. Rolle Berlin S.W.11 [printed] and only one of them also bears a Friese’s original identification label: Centris americana v. bicincta Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1904 Friese det. [printed] (NMW) .

Type locality: Brazil: Pará state: Óbidos .

Comment: The variety described as C. americana bicincta only differs from males of C. americana in the extension of the yellowish pubescence on the metasoma.
