Centris burgdorfi Friese, 1901: 346, 347.

Type data: Friese (1901) described this species using two specimens of each sex collected by K. Burgdorf in Villarrica (“Villa Rica”), southeastern Paraguay. The lectotype was designed by Zanella (2002) and it is housed at ZMB. The specimen has the following data label: Paraguay Villa Rica 1900 Burgdorf [printed]\ Centris burgdorfi Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1904 Friese det. [printed]\ Zool. Mus. Berlin [printed with blue ink]\ [red label] Type [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed] (ZMB). The current condition and depository of the paralectotypes are unknown.

Type locality: Paraguay: Guairá department: Villarrica (“Villa Rica”) .

Comments: This is one of the largest South American species of the subgenus. Aspects of its bionomy can be found in Sabino et al. (2017, 2019).
