Paracypris cf. Paracypris sp. 1 in Lord & Lambourne 1991

Fig. 10O

Material examined

ROMANIA • 1 complete carapace; Black Sea, Romanian Continental Shelf, borehole 817LV, sample CM31A; Rhaetian, Upper Triassic; MNHN.F. F63274.

Dimensions

L = 404 µm; H = 135 µm; H/L = 0.41.

Occurrence

Romanian Continental Shelf, Black Sea, Rhaetian, Upper Triassic (this paper).

Remarks

The present species shares very close morphological proximity with Paracypris sp. 1 in Lord & Lambourne 1991 from the Pliensbachian, Early Jurassic, of the Western Pontides, Turkey (Lord & Lambourne 1991): similar H/L ratio (0.41), low anterior maximum of curvature pointing downward, pointed PB at venter, oral concavity long, poorly expressed, located in anterior half of L max. The two specimens might be conspecific, but the Rhaetian specimen is smaller than the Jurassic one (L = 700 µm;

H = 289 µm) and might represent an immature stage. These two hypotheses can only be tested by more sampling in the two areas.
