Laena bozdagica sp. nov.

(Figs. 16, 23, 30)

Holotype ♂: Turkey, Izmir, Boz Dağlari, 1200 m, 30.V.2003, leg. I. Smatana.

Paratypes: Same data as holotype, 1 ♂, 1 ♀ SMNS .— Turkey, Izmir, Boz Dağlari, 1200 m, 30.V.–3.VI.2003, leg. R. Lohaj, 2 ♂♂ SMNS .

Description: Body length 4.5–5.5 mm. Eyes slightly prominent. Pronotum (Fig. 16) with large punctures, distance as 1–3 diameters, most punctures with longer erect setae; surface flat and shining; lateral margin distinctly bordered; prothoracic hypomera with sparser punctation and shorter setation than on disc. Elytra (Fig. 16) with rows of punctures without distinct striae, punctures of rows similar as punctures on pronotum, most punctures with a long erect seta; intervals with a regular row of smaller punctures bearing each an erect seta of similar length; interval 9 with 3 indistinct setiferous pores; all intervals flat and shining. All femora in both sexes without teeth or other armatures. Male posterior tibia internally before middle with a distinct tooth (Fig. 23). Aedeagus with triangular apicale with acute tip, lateral margins of apicale slightly excavated (Fig. 30).

Diagnosis: L. bozdagica sp. nov. is very similar in the external characters (shape and bordered margin of pronotum, dorsal puncation and setation, unarmed femora) as the widespread L. byzantina (also known from Boz Dağlari), but can be separated by the male posterior tibia internally before middle with a distinct tooth (unarmed in L. byzantina), and by the shape of the aedeagus with acute tip of the apicale (rounded tip in L. byzantina). Intermediate forms are unknown so that infraspecific variation seems unlikely. A modified male posterior tibia occurs in different extent only in a few other western Palaearctic species of Laena, in L. apfelbecki (Fig. 22), L. kraatzi (Fig. 24), and in L. lindbergi (Fig. 25). Additionally, the eyes are slightly prominent in L. bozdagica sp. nov. and L. byzantina, and more flat in L. lindbergi .

Etymology: Named after the Boz Dagh Mountain near Izmir, where the type series was collected.

Distribution: Western Turkey, Boz Dağlari.
