Type locality. Vietnam (Phu Yen).

Type material. MNHN (AE676 (A 730), AE 677), France.

Records from Vietnam. Da Nang (Ba Na NP); Phu Yen; Lam Dong (Da Lat) (Michaelsen 1934b; Huynh 2005a; Pham 2010).

Distribution. Only known from Vietnam.

Remarks. Another subspecies, Metaphire varellana gilva (Michaelsen, 1934) was noted to be recorded in Indochina, but the exact locality was not given (Blakemore 2007a).
