Metaphire saigonensis (Omodeo, 195 7)

Pheretima saigonensis Omodeo, 1957: 327, Figs 2, 4; Thai 1983: 124, as a synonym of Metaphire bahli; Nakamura 1999: 44. Metaphire saigonensis— Sims & Easton 1972: 239 ( peguana -group); Blakemore 2008b, as a synonym of Metaphire peguana; Blakemore 2016: 17.

Type locality. Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh city = Sai Gon).

Type material. Unknown.

Records from Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City (= Saigon) (Omodeo 195 7).

Distribution. Only known from Vietnam.

Vietnamese name. Giun sài gòn.

Remarks. The species was considered a synonym of Metaphire peguana, but was restored to full species rank by Blakemore (2016). M. peguana and M. saigonensis are clearly different in the distance between male pores and spermathecal pores (Blakemore 2016).
