Asellus vulgaris Latreille, 1803 and Asellus deminutus vulgaris Sket, 1965 [ Asellidae]

Remarks: Asellus deminutus vulgaris Sket, 1965 (currently Proasellus vulgaris (Sket, 1965)) is a primary junior homonym of Asellus vulgaris Latreille, 1803 (a junior synonym and unnecessary replacement name for Oniscus aquaticus Linnaeus, 1758 = Asellus (Asellus) aquaticus (Linnaeus, 1758) fide Bovallius, 1886). However, the junior homonym cannot be replaced without an application to the ICZN (ICZN 1999: Article 23.9.5.) as the two taxa are currently in different genera. As an unnecessary replacement name, Latreille’s species is not valid and no action is necessary.
