TYPE SPECIES: Lepus crassicaudatus I. Geoffroy, 1832 .

COMMENTS: From one (Peddie, 1975) to six (Roberts, 1951) species have been recognized in this genus (Robinson, 1982). Three species are now generally recognized (Duthie and Robinson, 1990).
