TYPE LOCALITY: " Mexico." Restricted by Goodwin (1969:125) to "Sacualpan" (= Zacualpan) .
DISTRIBUTION: S Sinaloa to E Oaxaca and Veracruz (Mexico).
STATUS: Some populations have declined, but overall "still quite abundant" (Chapman and Ceballos, 1990).
SYNONYMS: insolitus (J. Allen, 1890); pacificus (Nelson, 1904); veraecrucis (Thomas, 1890).
COMMENTS: Subgenus Sylvilagus (Gureev, 1964:167) .
