Jussiaea purpurea Linnaeus, Herbarium Amboinense: 26. 1754, orth. var.
RCN: 126.
Lectotype (Stearn in Taxon 10: 17. 1961): Herb. Linn. No. 28.26 (LINN) .
Current name: Justicia purpurea L. ( Acanthaceae).
Note: The Rumphius plate upon which this name was apparently based is cited in the synonymy of Justicia purpurea L. (1753) in Linnaeus’ later accounts of that species (Syst. Nat., ed. 10, 2: 850. 1759; Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 1: 23. 1762), suggesting strongly that “Jussiaea” was an error for “Justicia”, as noted by Merrill (Interpret. Rumph. Herb. Amb.: 476. 1917). " Jussiaea purpurea " was not used by Linnaeus again in 1759 or 1762. It is treated as an orthographic variant of Justicia purpurea L.
