Juncus niveus Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 10, 2: 987. 1759.
["Habitat in Alpibus Bohemicis, Helveticis, Rhaeticis, Monspelii."] Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 1: 468 (1762). RCN: 2545.
Lectotype (designated here by Kirschner): Herb. Linn. No. 449.41 (LINN) .
Current name: Luzula nivea (L.) DC. ( Juncaceae).
Note: Kirschner (in Kirschner & al., Sp. Pl. - Fl. World 6: 25. 2002) cited this name from Amoen. Acad. 4: 481 (Nov 1759) but gave its publication date as 1756 (i.e. that of the original dissertation, Flora Monspeliensis, in which the name did not appear - see Stearn in Geck & Pressler, Festschr. Claus Nissen: 629. 1974). The name actually dates from Syst. Nat., ed. 10, 2 ( May–Jun 1759) where it is not validated solely by a reference to Magnol (as believed by Kirschner).
