Type Locality: Surinam.

Vernacular Names: Greater Sac-winged Bat.

Synonyms: Saccopteryx centralis Thomas 1904; Saccopteryx insignis Wagner 1855; Saccopteryx perspicillifer Miller 1899 .

Distribution: Jalisco and Veracruz (Mexico) to Bolivia, Guianas, and E Brazil south to Rio de Janiero; Trinidad and Tobago.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
