Discussion: Subgenus Taphozous . Includes fumosus; see Troughton (1925) and Chimimba and Kitchener (1991). Tate (1952) included georgianus in this species, but see McKean and Price (1967) and Chimimba and Kitchener (1991). Also see Flannery (1995 a) and Bonaccorso (1998).
