Typophyllum inflatum Vignon, 1925

Fig. 33

Distribution: Argentina: Misiones; Bolivia: Beni, Santa Cruz; Brazil: Paraná.

Comments: Even if this species was previously recorded for the Paraná State (Cigliano et al. 2022), the record for the Iguaçu National Park is new. We collected individuals which varied considerably regarding coloration patterns: greenish, whitish, greenish-whitish, brownish-whitish, greyish were recorded, even if dark brown specimens were most frequent .

Bioacoustics (Fig. 33E–G): The stridulation only occurs at night, when males produce very conspicuous short echemes that are composed by sequences of two syllables. Such syllables are distinctly emitted with a gradual increase and a posterior decrease of intensity. The frequency of the sound varies along the duration of the syllables, and an evident harmonic appears at half of the dominant frequency.

Dominant frequency: 21.3 ± 0.4 kHz.

Bandwidth: 3.5 ± 1.5 kHz.

Duration: Syllable: 0.04 ± 0.004 s; Echeme: 0.18 ± 0.004 s.

Mute interval: Syllable: 0.1 ± 0.005 s; Echeme: 0.2 ± 0.01 s.
