Kairona Huber & Carvalho gen. n.

Type species. Kairona selva sp. n.

Etymology. The genus name is derived from the ancient Greek Kairos, personification of opportunity, shown with one lock of hair on his forehead which reminds of the male ocular area modification of the type species; gender feminine.

Notes. The recent molecular phylogeny of Pholcidae (Eberle et al. 2018) placed Kairona in a highly supported clade together with Saciperere (“Gen.n. Br15-45”); Pisaboa Huber, 2000; and Waunana Huber, 2000 . No morphological synapomorphy is known that joins these genera. They all share vertical hairs in high density on the male legs (femora and tibiae, or tibiae only) but this character is widespread among Modisiminae (Huber 2000) .
