Type and type locality. The neotype ovig. female (10.5 mm) held at the National Zoological Collections of Zoological Survey of India (NZC-ZSI C- 7136/2) from Thryssa setirostris (Broussonet, 1782) Marina Beach, Chennai, Bay of Bengal designated by Aneesh et al. (2018b).

Remarks. Aneesh et al. (2017a) provided a detailed description of Indian specimen J. engraulidis . Joryma engraulidisi is distinguished from other known species within the genus by the following characteristics, body 1.4–1.6 times longer than wide, cephalon conspicuous dorsally and reaching beyond pereonite 1 expansion, pereonite 1 anterolateral expansion unilateral and not bilobed, pleonites not overlapped, pleotelson broadly rounded uropod rami unequal, mandibular palp 3-segmented.

Agarna engraulidis Barnard, 1936 was transferred to Livoneca engraulidis by Pillai (1964) without any generic diagnosis. This view has not been supported by Bowman & Tareen (1983) and this species was transferred to Joryma, while expressing reservation about its generic position.

Kazmi et al. (2002) figure of J. engralilidis from the host Sardillella spp. is a misidentification and refers to J. hilsae . The cephalon conspicuous dorsally and reaching the margin of pereonite 1 expansion, pereonite 1 anterolateral expansion bilateral and slightly bilobed, pleonites not overlapped, pleotelson broadly rounded, uropods rami equal mandibular palp 3-segmented (Rameshkumar et al. 2011).

Color. Female, in living condition, white color (Aneesh et al. 2018b).

Size. Ovig. females 9–14 mm; non ovig. female 8 mm (Aneesh et al. 2018b).

Distribution. Only known from Indian waters; Devi River, Orissa Coast, India (Barnard 1936), Malabar Coast, Arabian Sea (Aneesh et al. 2016a) and Chennai, Bay of Bengal (Aneesh et al. 2018b).

Hosts. Only known from the type host Thryssa setirostris (as Engraulis setirostris) (Barnard 1936; Aneesh et al. 2016a, 2018b).
