Catoptes spermophilus Broun, 1895:405 (Synonymised with Irenimus compressus by Kuschel, 1969:800) Catoptes subnitidus Broun, 1914:206 (Synonymised with Irenimus compressus by Kuschel, 1969:800) Catoptes curvatus Broun, 1914:206 (Synonymised with Irenimus aequalis by Kuschel, 1969:805) This species is removed from synonymy with the externally similar C. compressus on the basis of clear aedeagal characters and genetic differences. The apex of the penis in C. compressus is sagittate (Kuschel, 1969: Figure 11), while the apex of the penis in C. spermophilus is broadly rounded.
