Distribution: an irregular area in the southern US extending from southeastern North Carolina to southern Nevada and southward through Mexico and Central America to central Panama (Former Canal Zone); also occurring on the Pearl Islands (Shelley 2002). Remarks: Scolopendra viridis Say, 1821, is a senior primary homonym of S. laeta viridis Kraepelin, 1908, occurring in Australia, which was placed in synonymy under S. laeta Haase, 1887, by L. E. Koch (1982).
