Holotype: not known to exist, not present in MNHP (J.­J. Geoffroy, pers. comm.), not found in 2005; type locality: Brazil .

Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. gigantea L., 1758 (Kraepelin 1903, Attems 1930, Bücherl 1942 a).

Remarks: This name was omitted by Bücherl (1974) and was overlooked by Shelley & Kiser (2000) in the rediagnosis of S. gigantea .
