Original rank: species. Current rank and status: synonym of S. subspinipes Leach, 1815 (Brölemann 1909, Bücherl 1942 a, Shelley 2002).

Remarks: Kraepelin (1903) and Attems (1930) considered the name to be a synonym of, now, S. subspinipes dehaani Brandt, 1840, but Shelley (2000, 2002) did not recognize races of this species (see S. subspinipes account).
