Atherigona (Atherigona) falkei Deeming, 1981

Atherigona falkei Deeming, 1981: 106, figs 21–23; Dike 2003: 219 (distribution); Muller 2015: 870, fig. 59.

Material examined: 2♂, West Caprivi Park, Kwando River, Susuwe, 17°45'37''S, 23°20'55''E, 28.ix–02.x.1998, A . H. Kirk-Spriggs, Malaise trap in dry woodland (both NMNW) .

Remarks: The above cited specimens agree very well with the original description and figures of the hypopygial prominence and trifoliate process provided by Deeming (1981: 107, figs 21, 22), but differ from the original description in having the parafacial at its narrowest point narrower still, syntergite 1 + 2 immaculate and tergite 3 with the pair of long black maculae (almost rectangular in the type), very narrow basally and concave on their inner surfaces to produce a bent droplet shape. The parafacial difference may well have been a distortion in the type specimen, where the facial plate had fractured from the parafacial and ridden forwards.

Distribution: Namibia *, South Africa and Uganda.
