Hedysarum hamatum Linnaeus var. viscosum Linnaeus, Plantarum Jamaicensium Pugillus: 20. 1759.

"Habitat [in Jamaica.]"

Lectotype (Kirkbride & Kirkbride in Taxon 36: 456. 1987): [icon] " Loto pentaphyllo siliquoso villoso similis anonis non spinosa, foliis cisti instar glutinosis & odoratis " in Sloane, Voy. Jamaica 1: 186, t. 119, f. 1. 1707. - Typotype: Herb. Sloane 3: 93 (BM-SL) .

Current name: Stylosanthes viscosa (L.) Sw. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Varietal epithet spelled “viscosa” in the protologue. Fawcett & Rendle (Fl. Jamaica 4: 29. 1920) indicated (unspecified) material in BM as type; it seems likely that they intended Sloane material (as did Dillon in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 67: 776. 1980) but this was, in any case, not seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name.
