Herniaria lenticulata Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 218. 1753.

"Habitat in Hispaniae montibus Escurial, Monspelii." RCN: 1797.

Neotype (designated here by Staples): Herb. Linn. No. 312.5 (LINN) .

Current name: Cressa cretica L. ( Convolvulaceae).

Note: Burtt & Lewis (in Kew Bull. 7: 337-338. 1952) argued that although 312.5 (LINN) is identifiable as Cressa cretica L. ( Convolvulaceae), it is not original material for H. lenticulata, which should be based instead on material in Herb. Bauhin (BAS). This, too, would not be original material but Burtt & Lewis declined to make any formal type choice. Chaudhri (Rev. Paronychiinae: 398. 1968), however, excluded this name from Herniaria and treated it as a synonym of Cressa cretica . In the absence of original material, this synonymy is formalised by the designation of 312.5 (LINN) as a neotype.
