TYPE LOCALITY: Switzerland, Grisons, Poschiavo .

DISTRIBUTION: Poschiavo Valley (Swiss Alps).

COMMENT: Considered a distinct species by Capanna et al., 1977, Boll. Zool., 44:213-246; also see Marshall, 1977, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 158(3):216, who discussed the relationship of poschiavinus to domesticus . Corbet, 1978:141, listed it provisionally as a subspecies of musculus . Gropp et al., 1972, Chromosoma, 39:269-288, considered poschiavinus chromosomally distinct. Marshall and Sage, 1981, Symp. Zool. Soc. Lond., 47:19, 24, listed poschiavinus as biologically and chromosomally distinct from domesticus and musculus, but cranially and biochemically inseparable from domesticus .
