DISTRIBUTION: S. and C. Sri Lanka.

COMMENT: Musser would place this species in a monotypic genus, Coelontys, which was considered a subgenus of Mus by Marshall, 1977, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 158(3):209 (JTM).
