COMMENT: Included as a subgenus of Praomys by Misonne, 1974, Part 6:24, and Ansell, 1978:81-82; but see Robbins et al., 1980, Ann. Carnegie Mus ., 49(2):31-48, who also stated Heimyscus may be a distinct genus. East African species reviewed by Bishop, 1979, Mammalia, 43: 519-530. Hylomyscus is in need of revision at the generic and specific levels.
