COMMENT: Formerly included in Rattus by Ellerman, 1949, The Families and Genera of Living Rodents, 3:189, and in subgenus Bullimus of genus Rattus by Misonne, 1969, Ann. Mus . R. Afr. Cent. Tervuren, ser. 8, Sci. Zool., 172:141; but considered a distinct genus by Musser, 1981, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 169(2): 137, who also included Arcuomys in Taeromys . Musser, 1971, Zool. Meded., 45: 128, reviewed the species allocated to Taeromys by Sody, 1941, Treubia, 18(2):260, but bontanus, marmosurus, and xanthurus are here included in Rattus and dominator is included in Paruromys (GGM, JH) .
