COMMENT: Formerly included as a subgenus of Rattus by Ellerman, 1954, in Laurie and Hill, 1954, p. 117, and in the subgenus Bullimus of Rattus by Misonne, 1969, Ann. Mus . R. Afr. Cent. Tervuren, ser. 8, Sei. Zool., 172:141; but see Musser, 1981, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 169(2): 137, who considered Paruromys and Bullimus distinct genera. Ellerman, 1954, in Laurie and Hill, p. 117, also tentatively included microbullatus (here included in Rattus callitrichus; see Musser, 1973, Am. Mus . Novit., 2511:24) in Paruromys .
