TYPE LOCALITY: Malaysia, Bukit Besar, Jalor .
DISTRIBUTION: S. Burma and S. Thailand to Sumatra, Java and Bali; Con Son Isl. (off Vietnam).
COMMENT: Includes baturus, besuki, condorensis, jacobsoni, lepturoides, lieftincki, marinus, pan, temmincki, and treubii; Marshall, 1977, in Lekagul and McNeely, p. 403, included huang in this species, but Musser, 1981, Bull. Am. Mus . Nat. Hist., 168(3):327, included huang in fulvescens and is followed here; Musser also stated that the relationships between bukit, fulvescens, and rapit need further clarification. Formerly included in Maxomys; see Musser et al., 1979, J. Mammal., 60:592-605.
